Acupuncture and Anxiety
Is anxiety affecting you?
Worry or fear are normal responses to certain situations such as a job interview, but continual feelings of worry or fear may be symptoms of anxiety. The British Acupuncture Council report that ‘Traditional acupuncture can be enormously beneficial for anxiety’. As well as having a general calming effect on the system, research has shown that acupuncture stimulates the release of the body’s own endorphins, which have a role in regulating stress responses such as heart rate.
Emotional signs of anxiety may be worry, poor memory, difficulty concentrating, over thinking, insomnia and irritability. While, physical symptoms may include: sweating, nausea, diarrhoea, dry mouth, palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, cold hands, muscle tension and aches, trembling and twitching (American Psychiatric Association: 2000, WHO:2007).

Acupuncture for pain relief
Did you know that acupuncture can be effective for pain relief ?
Pain, whether due to a recent acute injury or from long term chronic illness can profoundly affect your quality of life, both mentally and physically.
Traditional Chinese acupuncture has been used to relieve pain for over 2500 years. Western and Chinese medicine view the way acupuncture works differently, although both acknowledge it’s pain relieving effects. Western medical research suggests that acupuncture works by stimulating neural pathways to pain receptors in the brain which release pain relieving endorphins. Chinese medicine, however, views pain as a blockage or stagnation in the flow of blood and energy within specific channels of the body. Acupuncture targets specific points along these channels, releasing blockages and helping to relieve pain.
