Can Acupuncture help with Anxiety?
Acupuncture and Anxiety
Is anxiety affecting you?
Worry or fear are normal responses to certain situations such as a job interview, but continual feelings of worry or fear may be symptoms of anxiety. The British Acupuncture Council report that ‘Traditional acupuncture can be enormously beneficial for anxiety’. As well as having a general calming effect on the system, research has shown that acupuncture stimulates the release of the body’s own endorphins, which have a role in regulating stress responses such as heart rate.
Emotional signs of anxiety may be worry, poor memory, difficulty concentrating, over thinking, insomnia and irritability. While, physical symptoms may include: sweating, nausea, diarrhoea, dry mouth, palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, cold hands, muscle tension and aches, trembling and twitching (American Psychiatric Association: 2000, WHO:2007).
